Steven Gerrard drops Alfredo Morelos hint as Rangers boss reveals striker wants to be unleashed

Steven Gerrard insists Alfredo Morelos is fully focused on Rangers and desperate to be unleashed on Thursday evening.

The Rangers boss also raved about his two new striker signings that appeared to indicate the Colombian is on his way out of Ibrox.

But Gerrard revealed Morelos is hell-bent on facing up to Bayer Leverkusen, an act of commitment that hints he wants to fight for his first-team place.

Morelos has travelled with the squad to Germany for the Europa League showdown and could feature despite intense transfer hype and Lille waiting in the background.

Record Sport understands, though, there has been no further contact between the clubs since last week.

On Tuesday, the Ibrox club added Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten in a double transfer swoop. Neither of the new men are available for the Europa League clash in the Rhineland - but the shock arrivals seemed to indicate movement in the Morelos saga.

The man himself posted a picture on Instagram - a selfie at the team hotel with one digit raised, possibly suggesting he still thinks he's No.1 in Govan.

But Gerrard insists his Rangers talisman up top is blocking out the noise and his only focus is firing to a shock result as they look to overturn a 3-1 deficit from the first leg at Ibrox back in March.

He said: "It's a game we are looking forward to, we are disappointed with the result from the first-leg but we are over here to give it everything we have got.

"Alfredo is focused on the game tomorrow. He is fit to play and wants to play. You will have to wait until tomorrow to see what our team is.

"I'd certainly prefer a full stadium and I think everyone would but the reality is the situation around the world decides that at the moment.

"We know our support will be watching back home and we hope we give them a performance to make them proud tomorrow.

"The plan is to try and start on the front foot and get that first goal to make it an interesting tie."

Gerrard hasn't held back in his demands for a new striker but after Tuesday's deals he's now optimistic regarding his options up front.

He added: "I'm extremely happy with the two players we got in yesterday and we now have a lot of options in the forward areas.

"I'm sure they will both bring a lot to the group. The board have given us great backing as always.

"Both players are different. Roofe is very sharp and likes to press hard. Cedric is one who comes with huge potential, with power and pace.

"They give us good options and can also play together in our system. It is really positive news for Rangers."

Meanwhile, Leverkusen manager Peter Bosz fully expects Morelos to play against his side.

He said: "Yes, I expect him to play tomorrow.

"Of course, he's a good striker, an experienced striker. Fast, intelligent. He's a good player, absolutely."
